The truly monumental Cosmos is Murcof’s third album proper, and his first
release since 2005s Remembranza
Comprised of six massive instrumental compositions inspired by his newfound
passion for stargazing, this is without doubt Fernando Corona’s
best work yet – especially with the volume up!
The long-awaited album is composed almost entirely of recordings of
classical instruments, a process which Corona describes as “expanding the
possibilities of acoustic instruments through electronics”, and is a move
away from the micro-programmed sound he helped to pioneer
Cosmos will appeal as much to fans of contemporary composition and
artists such as Earth or Sunn O))) as to the last remaining fans of
‘electronic’ music, with which this bears only a passing resemblance.
Corona has recently collaborated with pianist Francesco Tristano (at this
year’s Sónar festival), Erik Truffaz and Talvin Singh (at the 2006 Montreux
Jazz Festival) and video artist Saul Saguatti at the Geode IMAX in Paris
Gravitating to his natural home, Corona has now scored three feature
films, including the forthcoming La Sangre Iluminada (Enlightened Blood);
further film soundtracks are in the pipeline
Murcof’s music has been used in countless film and TV productions
worldwide, and was used extensively in The Ballet Boyz’ production
Naked at London’s Sadlers Wells Theatre
He was presented as one of the Top 30 Global Visionaries by Planet
magazine in 2005, and scooped a Qwartz Electronic Music Award in 2006,
Released in 2002, Murcof’s first album, Martes, is considered a stone
classic in electronic music, and continues to sell in considerable quantities
5 years on
Now resident in Barcelona, Corona is set to appear live in Europe more
frequently around the album release, with a European tour of planetariums
currently being scheduled
Other one-off appearances worldwide to include the San Francisco
Electronic Music Festival and the Shift Festival in Switzerland
